Kitchen Commons Seeks Summer-Fall 2018 Interns!
Kitchen Commons builds community around food, promotes the benefits and joys of cooking together, and works to make healthy meals affordable and practical for all. We support a network of Community Kitchens and their grassroots leaders through training and resources, and help organizations with kitchens put them to use serving community needs. Community Kitchens are a way of stretching food dollars, strengthening social ties and fostering resource and skill sharing. Kitchen Commons’ efforts are modeled on established successful Community Kitchen networks in Seattle, Canada, and Latin America.
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team as a Community Kitchen Resource Intern and a Kitchen Directory/Communications Intern for Summer-Fall 2018. Ideal candidates will be able to start by 6/25 and intern through 12/14/2018, but we also welcome applications from prospective three-month interns (summer only.) Interns will receive a $300 stipend ($150 for 3-month interns), half at the one-month check-in and half at the end of the internship. Interns can also arrange to receive course credit.
The intern should expect to regularly spend 5 hours per week, with additional hours as necessary especially during event weeks. Daily schedule will often be flexible, with some evenings and weekends required to support Community Kitchen events, and at least one consistent weekly time for shared “office hours” at a community center workspace in NE Portland.
Priority will be given to applications received by 6/12/2018. Please send a letter of interest and resume (attached as a single combined PDF with your name in the document title) to email@example.com. Your letter should include a description of your background and qualifications and why you are interested in the internship and in Kitchen Commons. For more information, visit www.kitchencommons.net.
The Community Kitchens Resource Intern supports our partner Community Kitchens and Leadership Program by capturing stories and statistics to support program evaluation and promotion, co-leading skill-share and networking events, developing and updating resources and providing support to the Community Kitchens. This intern will also support the development of our new Kitchen Conversations program by working with the Program Coordinator to integrate the sharing and collection of food stories into special “Story Kitchen” events at each partner location.
The Kitchen Directory/Communications Intern will help to update and expand our lists of kitchens available for community use as well as our licensed kitchen list, by contacting sites to update information, reaching out to new potential locations to schedule site visits, and updating the lists on the Kitchen Commons website. Additional opportunities include designing e-mail newsletters, organizing promotion efforts such as community tabling and social media outreach, and general website content updates as well as exploring options for a new potential website.
