Kitchen Commons Seeks Fall/Winter Interns!
Kitchen Commons builds community around food, promotes the benefits and joys of cooking together, and works to make healthy meals affordable and practical for all. We support a network of Community Kitchens and their grassroots leaders through training and resources, and help organizations with kitchens put them to use serving community needs.
We are seeking two enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team for Fall 2017 – Winter 2018: a Community Kitchen Resource Intern and a Communications & Development Intern. Ideal candidates will be able to start by 10/15/2017 and work through 4/15/2018. The interns will each receive a $250 stipend, half paid at the one-month check-in and half paid at the end of the internship. Interns can also arrange to receive course credit.
The Community Kitchens Resource Intern supports our partner Community Kitchens and Leadership Program by capturing stories and statistics to support program evaluation and promotion, co-leading trainings, skill-shares and networking events, developing food sourcing resources and providing support to the Community Kitchens. Community Kitchens are a way of stretching food dollars, strengthening community ties and fostering resource and skill sharing. Kitchen Commons’ efforts are modeled on established successful Community Kitchen networks in Seattle, Canada, and Latin America.
The Communications and Development Intern will support community engagement, partnership development and fundraising efforts for Kitchen Commons as a member of our Development Committee. Key responsibilities include designing e-mail newsletters, researching funding opportunities, coordinating promotion efforts through community tabling social media, building relationships with potential partners and assisting with funding proposals, improving the process for tracking contacts, and co-leading the planning and evaluation for community events.
The interns should expect to regularly contribute 10 hours per week, with additional hours as necessary especially during event weeks. Daily schedule will often be flexible, with some evenings and weekends required, and at least one consistent weekly time for shared “office hours” at a community center workspace in NE Portland.
We will review applications as they are received and begin scheduling interviews, with priority given to applications received by October 11th, 2017. Please send a letter of interest and resume (attached as a PDF with your name in the document title) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Your letter should include a description of your background and qualifications and why you are interested in the internship and in Kitchen Commons.
