About Kitchen Commons
Since our founding in 2011, Kitchen Commons has worked to create a network of Community Kitchen cooking groups across N/NE Portland. These groups revitalize underutilized kitchens and build strong relationships across difference through cooking together. Through our collaborative, neighbor-centered approach, we transform isolation, difficulty, and inequality in our current food system. Our mission is to foster community kitchens and leaders that bring people together to share food, resources, and relationships. By supporting each other in our journeys as cooks and food citizens, we work toward a Portland where healthy, local and justly produced food is valued on all levels—from the farm to the kitchen to the table.
The Kitchen Conversations Coordinator will lead a team of volunteers in planning an event in May, 2019 (and hopefully a second similar event in September if additional funding is secured.) Each Kitchen Conversation will be an opportunity for three storytellers to lead recipe teams in preparing a dish connected in some way to their food story. The role of the Coordinator will be to:
- Plan and facilitate event committee meetings
- Work with storytellers to develop and practice their stories
- Create plans for outreach and event logistics, with task assignments to volunteers
- Coordinate as needed with language interpreters, childcare providers, and videographers
- Co-facilitate the event alongside a professional facilitator
This role comes with a $500 community leadership stipend for each event. We may be able to fully or partially cover the costs for this person to attend a facilitation training, and to provide reimbursement for transportation, meeting food, etc. related to the project.
