For the sixth and final event in our Food Justice Workshop Series, sponsored by Central NE Neigbhors, we're taking it outside! Swing by the Mekong Bistro parking lot (8200 NE Siskyou) any time between 1 and 2pm on Saturday, 6/12 to learn about salad rolls and pick up a kit with ingredients, herb starts, recipes, and more. From 2 -3pm, join us over Zoom for a live salad roll and sauce making demo.

Gather round to watch a video of a Kitchen Commons volunteer's family granola recipe that you can adapt into your own. We'll get a preview of next month's recipe and how you can get what you need to make your own salad rolls, including a virtual tour of one of Yukiyo's favorite local grocery stores. And, we'll do some planning for the June event, which will be the final workshop in our series and will take place in person!

Bring and level up your salad game! We'll be presenting live from the Hollywood Senior Center, practicing the basics of vinaigrettes, variations on creamy green dressings, and sharing our salad/dressing stories, recipes, and affordable produce sourcing tips.

We will learn about the history of Bánh mì in SE Asia and Portland, how it’s evolved over time, and how Yukiyo and Yu have adapted their own versions. At the workshop, we’ll each have a chance to make our own "ode to the Bánh mì", and enjoy our sandwiches together while we talk.

For February's workshop, we'll watch Kate's short, simple, adaptable muffin how-to video and follow along. While our muffins bake, we'll hear how she learned to make and edit videos and share tips and tricks for making it easy and fun to share recipes and stories this way.

Celebrate persimmon season with Portland Fruit Tree Project and Kitchen Commons! We'll learn some different ways to use this amazing fall fruit.

Join us for a virtual celebration of Kitchen Commons in the past, present, and future. We will reflect on all that we have accomplished through the years (11/7/20 will mark the 10th anniversary of the founding event!), share updates from our productive if unusual summer, and envision what could be next.

This is the second event that Kitchen Commons has supported by Florence Jenkins, who began hosting virtual cooking events with her church during quarantine. The recipe is super flexible and can be used for whatever local and seasonal fruit you can get your hands on! There is also an additional recipe for homemade whipped cream!

We are so excited for this event hosted by one of Kitchen Commons' co-founders, Florence Jenkins, who has been hosting cooking classes via Zoom for her church! She has kindly invited the Kitchen Commons community for her next event, Quiches and Frittatas coming next Saturday, July 18th!
